Styling a brand shoot for a team is a unique challenge – it has to coordinate, but we’re not going for 90s family pictures at JCPenney’s. When it’s for a CEO + her team, she takes the lead as the face, and the rest of the team are styled to her, ensuring that they represent the brand well, that they showcase their own style to an extent (it’s really important that they’re still comfortable in what they’re wearing, and that it’s true to them, but, they aren’t the CEO) It’s different when you’re styling for a partnership – they both have to equally be the face of the brand, be true to their own unique style (and sometimes what they each naturally gravitate towards is very different!), and they have to look cohesive side by side. Not just in pictures that they are both in, but in any given look – it’s going to show up on the website and on social feeds alongside other solo images. Creative challenges are my favorite.
Chess & Nickie of House of Prodigy are absolutely incredible. I’ve had the joy of working with them for a couple shoots, as well as the Annual. They each have a personality-packed style, and they are each very, very different. Our focus for these shoots (there are images here from 2 different shoots) was creating a sense of bold authority, playing with vibrant colors to create scroll stopping moments, and really letting the boldness, as well as creative playfulness of their personalities show.
We used a lot of jewel tones – both of their closets are full of vibrant pieces, so beyond one main look, this was not a “neutrals” shoot at all. They both gravitate towards different ends of the spectrum in terms of which colors they love to wear, and it worked SO well for this shoot, thanks to color theory. They were each gravitating towards complementary colors, which are colors on the opposite ends of the color wheel that when put next to each other, create an eye-catching high contrast.
Instant vibrance, instant boldness, instant personality.
